Metacaulk® Pipe Collars are a cost-effective and labor-saving solution for firestopping plastic pipes in through-penetration scenarios. Their key features and details include
Key Features
- Prefabricated System: Ready to install, eliminating the need for measuring and applying messy sealants in the initial installation phase.
- Easy Installation: Features a simple locking tab mechanism that allows for quick and efficient installation around the pipe.
- Economical: Reduces labor costs compared to traditional firestopping methods.
- Highly Intumescent: The internal intumescent material expands significantly when exposed to heat from a fire, forming a dense char that closes off the opening and prevents the passage of flames and smoke. Expansion begins around 375°F (190°C) with the greatest expansion occurring between 575°F - 1100°F (302°C - 593°C).
- Tested for Various Plastic Pipes: Classified by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for use with PVC, CPVC, ABS, PVC/ABS Foam Core, FRPP, and PP pipes.
- UL Classified for Open and Closed Pipe Systems: Suitable for both closed (pressurized) and vented (DWV - drain, waste, vent) plastic pipe applications.
- Various Sizes: Available in sizes ranging from 1 1/2" (38 mm) to 6" (152 mm) to accommodate common plastic pipe diameters.
- FBC System Compatible: Indicates that the product has been tested and is monitored on an ongoing basis to assure its chemical compatibility with FlowGuard Gold®, BlazeMaster®, and Corzan® pipe and fittings.
- Complies with Environmental Exposure Testing: Meets the requirements of UL 1479 for accelerated aging and high humidity.
- Fits in Limited Access Areas: The design allows for installation even in tight spaces.
Applications
- Sealing off combustible plastic pipes (PVC, CPVC, ABS, FRPP, PVC/ABS foam core, PP) penetrating:
- Concrete floors and walls (up to 3-hour fire rating)
- Gypsum walls (up to 2-hour fire rating)
- Wood floors (up to 2-hour fire rating)
- Ideal for use in both open and closed (pressurized) piping systems.
- Suitable for various plumbing, drain, waste, vent, and other plastic piping applications.
- Can be used in conjunction with Metacaulk® 1000 sealant within the annular space for an additional smoke seal if required.
Installation
- Select the proper collar size to fit the diameter of the pipe.
- Ensuring the annular space is within the limits specified in the tested conditions, attach the collar around the pipe on the underside of the floor or to each side of a wall. Firmly place the collar against the wall or floor and secure the interlocking tabs (for 1 1/2", 2", 3", and 4" collars) or fasten the anchoring tabs (for all sizes).
- If needed, mark and predrill the wall or floor for required anchors. Secure appropriate anchors into each anchoring tab. Recommended anchors include concrete anchors (1/4" x 1 1/4" hex washer head or steel expansion/wedge type) or hollow wall anchors/drywall screws with fender washers for gypsum.
- If an additional smoke seal is required, Metacaulk® 1000 may be applied within the annular space before attaching the collar.
- Consult the UL Directory for complete installation instructions and specific system listings.
Limitations- Not for use in outdoor environments where long-term exposure to rainfall or saltwater spray may occur.
- No other limitations known if used as directed.
